My name is Michael-David and I have taught people to play the harp all around the world.
The harp is the most beautiful instrument ever created. It is so beautiful that God has harpists around His throne, all the time, so it must be God’s favorite instrument. The bible tells us that in heaven there is the sound of many waters that are like the sound of harpists playing their harps. So in heaven there is always the sound of harps being played, especially as our prayers are received in golden bowls and are transformed into incense.
Did you know that the most famous harpist in history is found in the Bible? You know him as the greatest King of Israel… of course I’m speaking about King David. Before David became the King he was a shepherd and he played his harp for countless hours while tending to his father Jesse’s sheep. Because David knew the power of God’s presence he was not afraid when he went to slay the giant Goliath.
David was a skilled musician who knew how to worship and to hear God’s voice. He wrote about half the songs found in the book of Psalms. His songs were inspired by the Holy Spirit and are a part of Holy Scriptures. In his songs he described the death and resurrection of the Messiah thousands of years before it actually happened. In fact, King David is so important in God’s plan of Salvation for the world that Jesus, the Messiah, is a descendent of David. David was promised by God that one day a King would be born who would rule on the throne of Israel forever and Jesus is that King whose name is “The Son of David”.
King David set up thousands of musicians to continuously worship the Lord and actually started a school of harpists who played before the Ark of the Covenant in a special tent. This system of musicians called the Levites ended up playing in the Temple that David’s son Solomon built. The prophet Amos says that in the end-days this tent called David’s Tabernacle would be restored even though it had fallen down. The main activity in the Tabernacle of David was the playing of the harp and singing God inspired songs. This harp course that you are learning is trying to do what David was doing and that is why the course (and the instrument) is called Harp of David.
In this course you will learn to play the harp using a harp that is similar to what David would have played on. You will even learn to play songs that have been translated from the words from David’s songs. This includes the most well known song that he wrote, Psalm 23, “The Lord is My Shepherd”. You can imagine how David was inspired to write this song from his years of experience being a shepherd himself.
I believe that as you learn to strum the strings of your harp that you will experience the same Holy Spirit that was on David. There is something at this time in history that is recalling the life of David and the incredible gift of music that he gave to this world. It is my prayer that you will have imparted to you something of that Spirit that David had and that you will know God’s peace through His presence that comes when you worship on your harp.
