Purchasing a Harp

When considering purchasing a 10 string lyre you have to ask… Levers or NO Levers?

Levers are valuable as they add the flexibility that allows the harpist to change keys quickly especially while working with other musicians.

Levers are not needed as much for younger beginners and the 12 lesson course is designed for harps without levers.

Both levered and unlevered 10 String Lyre Harps are beautifully crafted using Rosewood for the arms and crossbar and the soundboard is made of maple. A quality carrying case is included as well as a tuning key. The 12 lessons that are included give detailed instructions as to how to tune the lyre.

A 10 String Lyre Lever Harp is a good option as it is affordable but also has the benefit of levers.

Some Thoughts about Lyres vs Traditional Harps

In the Bible there are two words that are used to describe two kinds of harps. The “Nevel” is a more traditionally triangularly shaped harp and the “Kinnor” is the lyre. Modern harps have the benefit of levers on each string which allow the harp to be easily set into specific keys that use a certain number of sharps or flats. Levers are valuable as they add the flexibility that allows the harpist to change keys quickly especially while working with other musicians.
